OpenAI has officially announced that the ChatGPT AI search engine is now available to all users, starting today. This announcement was part of their “12 Days of Ship-Mas” livestream event, during which they shared several exciting updates. Among these is an improved search feature specifically designed for mobile devices and the introduction of advanced voice mode functionality that enhances the user experience.
Initially, this search engine was rolled out exclusively to paid subscribers in October. However, it is now accessible to users on the free tier, provided they have registered for an account and are logged in to the platform. This move aims to make the powerful capabilities of ChatGPT’s search accessible to a broader audience.
One of the standout enhancements for mobile users is the updated interface that allows ChatGPT to operate more like a conventional search engine. When users search for specific locations such as restaurants, cafes, or local attractions, they will see a well-organized list of results that includes images, user ratings, and business hours. By clicking on any location from the search results, users can access more detailed information about that place, including a description, contact information, and a map with directions to help them navigate.
Additionally, to improve efficiency in finding information, ChatGPT has a new feature that allows it to quickly display links to relevant websites when users are searching for specific categories, such as “hotel booking websites.” This means that users can see a list of links before ChatGPT provides a more detailed response. Moreover, for users who subscribe to the Advanced Voice Mode, which is available only to paid users, ChatGPT can fetch and deliver up-to-date information from the web in real-time, enhancing the overall search experience.
In previous livestreams, OpenAI has also introduced its innovative text-to-image model named Sora, which allows users to generate images from text prompts. Additionally, they have rolled out a new subscription option called ChatGPT Pro, priced at $200 per month, providing users with more advanced features and capabilities.
